I visited Cougar Annie’Garden around 20 years ago after reading the book by Margaret Horsfield I bought in a Salt Spring Island bookstore. We flew over from Tofino in a small airplane. We were ushered around by a young man who worked there.
He told me about the vision for the garden… for it to become a center for ecosystem understanding
Of gardens & bringing in people for that education.
Having worked in an Arboretum in Minnesota for 20 years I was very interested becoming a part of that.
I have not returned to the garden but have touched into this site & re read the book a number of times.I am a published poet & have delivered my poetry walk “compare & Compose” in National Parks where it was participated by non poets who wrote
As we walk trails to learn facts & receive feelings & then sit down to create their personal learnings in a poem or essay of their creation on site. I would so enjoy visiting Annie Cougars garden again & write my poetry on site of this unique place.

How interesting, Mary. I’m sure you’d be welcome back to do your poetry in that poetic spot, but you’d have to contact the garden to arrange it. It was a truly magical time for me.
